On January 1, 2016, OrthoVirginia and The Orthopaedic Center of Central Virginia merged to become the largest musculoskeletal physician specialty group in Virginia. By joining forces, we are expanding the delivery of musculoskeletal care to patients throughout Virginia. Except for the name change, it will be business as usual for both organizations. New Name, Same Great Services, Same Great People.

Total spine care from those you trust

Welcome to The Spine Center at the Orthopaedic Center of Central Virginia (OCCV)! Within our facility we have a multidisciplinary team approach and offer comprehensive services in one building to expedite your treatment.  Research has shown that a “team approach” provides superior spine care and having multi-specialty providers in one location makes it easier for collaborative treatment.  Our highly trained and motivated staff is focused on your wellness both in and out of the office and will strive to make your care as smooth and comfortable as possible.

We are proud to provide a multi-specialty care center including fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeons, fellowship trained non-operative or interventional spine specialists (physiatrists), physician assistants, spine physical therapists, movement coaches and an extensive support staff who will strive to meet your needs.

Services and Procedures

Onsite imaging includes x-ray and open MRI scanner.  The MRI at OCCV is a multi-positional machine allowing the patient to sit or stand, with the front open helping prevent claustrophobia.  While x-ray images show bones, MRI images show other spine structures, such as discs, nerves, and muscles, which help us better evaluate the source of the spine pain.

Other testing includes DXA scanning, used to evaluate for osteoporosis.

Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies (also known as EMG/NCS or nerve testing) can evaluate for certain types of nerve damage.

The physical therapy gym provides access to our spine physical therapists and PEAK team (movement coaches).  The physical therapy and PEAK providers offer expert one on one treatment to reduce pain, improve function and enhance your movement efficiency to maximize your physical abilities.

The procedure suite has a skilled team to help physicians perform fluoroscopically (x-ray) guided spine injections.  Many of our spine interventions can be performed here in the office.
Spine-specific medical equipment is also available at The Spine Center to help ease your pain and aide in your treatment including: lumbar support and cervical supports for home and travel, therapeutic exercise equipment, and functional equipment to help protect your spine.
